The Orange Cap was introduced in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 to recognize the most run-scorer of the tournament. The first player who won the title of Orange Cap was Australian batsman Shaun Marsh, who played for Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural edition of the IPL. Marsh scored a total of 616 runs in 11 matches at an average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68. His performances played a significant role in Kings XI Punjab's journey to the semi-finals that year.
